Working For My Meal

In the wild nothing seems to be easy. This Green Heron is just sitting here waiting to get it’s next meal. This is at the Click Ponds near the Viera Wetlands in Florida. As he watches for that next morsel to eat, he seems to be staring off into nothingness.

I Spy

Something catches his eye and he goes into prowl mode! Hanging on to the retaining wall he watches and his next meal moves around in the water below. Both he and I are entirely engrossed in the actions playing out at the pond. He sits there patiently waiting for the best angle to catch his prey. All the time I am trying to make sure I don’t upset the heron, so that this will play out. More on that later!

Back on the retaining wall with it’s lunch of frog legs and other frog parts, the Green Heron is at one with the world. Oh, remember I said I was trying to make sure I didn’t upset the heron so that it would go through this to the end? Part way through this series I found out I was standing on a fire ant hill and all my “Friends” were having a great time with my predicament. I got the last laugh because as they were enjoying the show I was putting on (Fire Ant Dance) I got these shots!
